Fairfield teacher faces charges of illegally videotaping students

A teacher and coach at Fairfield Community High School was arrested at about noon Friday for allegedly unlawfully videotaping students, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Timothy Going, math teacher and track coach, was also suspended with pay from the school, pending completion of the investigation, according to a letter Superintendent David Savage sent Saturday to parents. The Fairfield Community High School custodial staff discovered this week a video recording device in the high school girl's locker room. The school immediately secured the area and contacted the Illinois State Police.

Update: Superintendent's Response to Teacher's Arrest

This is Fairfield School District Superintendent David Savage's response:

"Fairfield High school math teacher and track coach Timothy Going has been suspended with pay pending completion of a police investigation follow the arrest Friday of Mr. going for allegedly unlawfully videotaping students.

Earlier this week, custodial staff discovered what appeared to be a video recording device in the girls locker room at the high school. School officials immediately secured the area, contacted the Fairfield Police Department and have been cooperating with the law enforcement investigation.

Mr. Going's suspension pending completion of the investigation is according to school district policy. A substitute teacher will take over his teaching duties for the remainder of the school year. Counselors also will be available to meet with students.

We cannot discuss any further details because of the ongoing police investigation. Anyone having information pertinent to this situation should contact the Fairfield Police Department.

The safety and welfare of our students is a top priority in the Fairfield School District and we appreciate the quick action taken by staff to report this situation and by the law enforcement agencies involved for their immediate response to resolve the situation."​

Police: Teacher set up hidden cameras at motel & locker room

Timothy Going, 43, was here with members of the cross country team from Fairfield Community High School in Wayne County, Illinois. That’s near Mt. Vernon. Police say Going set up a hidden camera in the bathroom of the student’s motel room at the Super 8 Motel on Route 159. The pictures were discovered in a much larger investigation swirling around Going back in Wayne County. The resignation of Timothy C. Going, 43, was accepted during a special meeting Thursday evening of the Fairfield High School Board of Education. In a letter to the board, Going, who is awaiting trial in two Illinois counties and federal court, made no reference to the pending criminal charges. Former high school coach, teacher indicted on sex charges involving minors

A former coach and math teacher in Fairfield, Illinois has been indicted on charges of attempted sexual exploitation of minors and possession of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexual explicit conduct. Stephen R. Wigginton with the United State Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois announced on Monday, July 28 that Timothy C. Going, 43, was arraigned on a four-count indictment.

Wigginton said that Counts 1 through 3 of the indictment allege that between August 24 and August 25 and between October 26 and October 27 and between November 1 and November 2, Going tried to sexually exploit minors by using these minors in an attempt to produce child pornography. Count 4 alleges that, on May 9, Going knowingly possessed a desktop computer and a laptop computer, both of which contained visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.​
