    Stanley Covington, 64, is in jail, accused of holding a knife to the student’s chest ... Covington was subbing an eighth grade math class at Normandy Middle School on Wednesday when police say a confrontation with a student got out of hand. Normandy police confiscated a five-inch knife from Covington and say the teacher admitted to having it but not to threatening the student. Either way, the weapon is not allowed on campus.​

    KPLR 11: Substitute Teacher Accused Of Pulling Knife On Student (Nov 8 2012)

    A Normandy Middle school substitute teacher is accused of pulling a knife on a student and threatening him. Stanley Covington was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with unlawful use of a weapon. “He and the student began to argue and Covington pulled out a knife,” St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch said. McCulloch told FOX 2 the argument began when the student arrived to class late. Covington is accused of having a knife that was “large” and had a “brass knuckle” shaped handle.

    A substitute teacher at Normandy Middle School was arrested for allegedly holding a knife to a student. It happened in front of other students in a math class. The 64 year old substitute teacher has been identified as Stanley Covington ... During the altercation Covington allegedly reached into a bag or satchel and pulled out a knife with a nearly six inch blade and brass knuckles.

    According to KSDK.com, witnesses told police one student was not moving quickly enough and [Stanley] Covington began arguing with the student. The students said during the argument Covington pulled out a 5 ¼ inch fixed-blade knife and held it six inches from the student's chest.


    At 2:30 p.m. Normandy police were called to the school and questioned Covington. He told police he lost control of the class and started to walk out to the hallway to find a security guard when someone threw a calculator at his head.

    Covington told police he turned back around and saw that his knife had been dug out of his bag and placed on his desk.

Authorities say Covington tried to calm the students down and get them ready for class. Witnesses told police one student was not moving quickly enough and Covington began arguing with the student. The students said during the argument Covington pulled out a 5 ¼ inch fixed-blade knife and held it six inches from the student's chest.
