Bishop is suspected of sending text messages containing matter used in an attempt to seduce a 15 year old. Bishop was arrested for contact or communication with a minor to commit an offense which is a felony. ​

Forty-year-old Ronald Steven Bishop was arrested at 3:12 p.m. Thursday at the school and booked for investigation of communicating with a minor to commit an offense and annoying or molesting a child, jail records show. He was released Friday on $150,000 bail. The investigation began Monday, Jan. 14, with a report of a child annoyance involving the boy, Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said in a written statement. “Bishop was one of the victim’s teachers,” according to the statement. “Bishop was suspected of communicating via text messaging with the … victim over a period of nearly two months.​

A Palm Springs High School teacher accused of molesting at least one male student pleaded not guilty Friday to sodomy and other sexual offenses and was ordered into custody. Ronald Bishop, 40, was initially charged Wednesday with four counts, and prosecutors added five more charges Friday against the 41-year-old Indio resident. He now faces seven felony charges — two counts of sodomy, one count each of oral copulation with a child under 16, unlawful bodily injury/sexual penetration by means of force, committing a lewd act on a child under 16, contacting a minor with intent to commit crimes and bringing child pornography into the state. He also is charged with two misdemeanors — molesting a child under 18 and possession of material showing minors in sex acts.​
