    No need to sack alleged child abusers immediately, Fair Work Commission rules

    The teacher at a Sydney girls school was sacked in February 2015 after being charged with indecently assaulting a person under the age of 16. The charges were dropped in August, and the former teacher sued the Catholic Education Office for wrongful dismissal. The Church objected, pointing to NSW state government law that it said required the school to sack the teacher. It argued it had not technically dismissed the teacher, but rather the Church was prohibited from continuing to employ him in "child-related work" because he had become a "disqualified person" under the Child Protection Act.
