CARMEL, IL (WFIE) - A special education teacher at Mt. Carmel High School pleads guilty to a lesser charge. Kirby Cheesman was accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old student. Cheesman pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal sexual abuse. The original charge was aggravated criminal sexual abuse. As part of the proposed sentence agreed upon by Cheesman's attorney and the State's attorney, Cheesman won't serve any jail time but she will have to register as a sex offender. Again, no jail time. Seems like a record case resolution rate.
