A substitute teacher “engaged in sexual relations” with a 15-year-old female student at Freeport High School for five months, Nassau County police said. The teacher, 23-year-old Kaitlin Grant, was arrested at her home in Elmont just early Friday morning and was charged with criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child ... Grant, a math and earth science teacher, met the unidentified student at the school and they started “interacting,” Det. Sgt. Carlo Maltempi said. The relationship went on from November 2011 to February of this year, he said. It ended after a family member learned about the alleged inappropriate behavior by the teacher and notified Freeport village police ...

Several of Grant’s Facebook posts also suggested that she was in a relationship, but she was hesitant to tell friends about the mystery person. When friends asked who the person was she responded on Jan. 2 saying, “I’m never telling.” Another post on Nov. 25—around the time when police said the relationship started—she wrote: “I think I found my new love!!!!” On Feb. 10 she wrote in a post: “Blindsided!!!!” and then posted another comment in the the thread saying, “that’s what happens with the game of love…sometimes you get burned.”

Nassau County police has arrested a 23-year-old female teacher for an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student. According to the police, Kaitlin Grant was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The earth science and math substitute teacher reportedly met the teen while teaching at Freeport High School. According to authorities Grant and her student had "several liaisons" over the course of their relationship, which began in November and continued until last month. They were found out when the student's parents found a "non-pornographic" photo of the pair and questioned the girl about it. After learning what had been going on they filed a complaint with the Freeport police yesterday.

On Nov. 25, Grant posted “I think I found my new love!!!!”

Just a day later, Grant posted “And this is where the trouble starts….oh wat to do wat to do!!!!!!”

At 2:52 a.m. on. Nov. 29, Grant posted “I’m done with the BS…. Just stop lying to me, and stop lying to yourself!!!!”

At 4:45 a.m., Grant posted “Discussion on hold, I’m tired we shall reconvene at a more appropriate time…. In the mean time i’ll take my own advice….and ‘STOP LYING TO MYSELF’…SMH!!!!”

SMH is an abbrevation for “shaking my head.”

On Jan. 1, Grant posted “Happy new year….I love my family, friends and most important my baby!!!!”

When her friends asked who her baby was, Grant replied “I’m never telling!!!”

On Jan. 22, Grant posted “I’m missing someone very much.”

On Feb. 10, Grant posted “Blindsided!!!” later adding “It’s cool, that’s what happens with the game of love…sometimes you get burned.”

Det. Sgt. Carlo Maltempi stated that Grant met the unnamed 15-year-old female student at the school. Grant had been with the district about one year. “She engaged in sexual relations with a student,” Maltempi said. “Grant was a substitute teacher. They met while in school and started interacting.” Police said Grant’s rendezvous with the student began last November and ended abruptly last month. According to Maltempi, a family member of the student uncovered the relationship and alerted Freeport Village Police. It is believed that the family member saw something suspicious on social media websites, indicating some sort of relationship was going on. An investigation by Nassau County’s Special Victims Squad ensued, police stated. “Something along those lines, yes,” Maltempi said when questioned if it were Facebook, social media or phone calls, but would not give a definitive answer.
