Marshfield Teacher Charged With Sexual Contact With Child

Investigators say Johnna Feazell had a sexual encounter with the girl earlier this month, adding Feazell was disciplined by the school two years ago for having inappropriate contact with the girl ... The girl's mother told authorities she found a strange cell phone in her daughter's room. The girl said Feazell provided the phone so they could have private conversations.

Court records say the principal told investigators that Feazell was disciplined two years ago, when the girl was 14, noting the teacher was written up twice for texting, writing letters and wanting to spend the evening with the teen, with her parents objecting. When asked about possible red flags in the past, Marshfield School District Superintendent, Dr. Mark Mayo, tells KTTS Assistant News Director Nancy Simpson that you have to go with the evidence you are presented with at the time.

Marshfield teacher accused of sex crime with student

Documents say that an eighth-grade teacher in Marshfield charged Friday with a sex crime involving a female student had been told twice before by school officials to stop contacting the student. Johnna Feazell, 46, of Marshfield faces charges in Webster County Circuit Court of statutory sodomy and attempted enticement of a child. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in prison.

    ...

Feazell tried to contact the student from the jail, according to the arraignment sheet in the case. She also told the student that if she "went to jail for 'this' that defendant would kill herself," according to the arraignment sheet.

    ...

Feazell was disciplined by the school district about a year ago for "inappropriate conduct" with the student, according to court documents. Administrators told her in writing not to have contact with the student. Feazell was told in June 2013 to stop texting and writing letters to the student, according to court documents. She was disciplined again, in October 2013, according to court documents. Mayo said the district disciplined Feazell the second time for what he described as attempted contact. He said that Missouri law required the district to give her time to correct the offense and that he consulted an attorney about what discipline to impose. "The action we disciplined her for was not sexual in nature," Mayo said.

The district notified law enforcement after the parents of the victim, a 16-year-old girl, went to the high school on Monday and told the principal that they thought Feazell was possibly having a sexual relationship with their daughter, according to court documents. The girl's mother told an investigator that she found a cellphone that she and her husband hadn't bought their daughter. The phone had only one contact number in it, which matched the phone number for Feazell, according to court documents.

Feazell allegedly had "deviate sexual intercourse" with the victim in October, when the victim was less than 17, and enticed the teen in October 2013, according to court documents.

The girl told an investigator that she had had a "mother/daughter" type relationship with Feazell since she was in seventh grade and frequently went to sporting events and other activities with her.

Did they refer it to law enforcement for an investigation at that time or just handle it "internally"?

Could future sexual abuse have been prevented if this had been referred to law enforcement two years ago?

Sex charge against Marshfield teacher doesn't shock prosecutor

A teacher is in jail after a 16-year-old girl told her parents and a detective that she had a sexual encounter with the teacher last week. Johnna Feazell, 46, is charged with second-degree statutory sodomy and attempted enticement of a child under age 15. The charges come after investigators say the girl’s parents previously raised concerns about Feazell's relationship with their daughter.

    ...

Investigators say the mother of the 16-year-old student found a strange cell phone in her daughter’s room this week. It had only one contact, which was listed as “sweetheart.” A detective says the number belonged to Feazell. The investigation led to the girl saying she and Feazell had a sexual encounter in Feazell's home the previous Friday night.

Police and prosecutors says this wasn’t the first time for concern. "This child’s parents had already had dealings with this defendant, saying, 'Don’t contact our daughter.' They had issues with her showing up at the child’s sporting events, riding her bicycle by their house, contacting her by text and letter, apparently in 2013, according to the probable cause statement," said Webster County Prosecuting Attorney Danette Padgett.

Investigators say Feazell received written disciplinary action from the school district in June and October 2013 because of her contact with the girl, as well as two years ago, when the girl was 14 years old. The enticement charge is because police were told Feazell tried to arrange to have an evening with the girl in October 2013 over the objections of the girl's parents.

Teacher is charged with having sex with minor girl

A junior high teacher was charged on Friday morning with statutory sodomy and attempted enticement of a child. A detective says the victim is a 16-year-old girl with whom Johanna Feazell had a sexual encounter on Oct. 10. Feazell is also charged with trying to have a sexual encounter with the girl in October 2013. but police also learned Feazell and the girl have had a close relationship for several years.

    ...

A Marshfield police detective started investigating Feazell on Monday after the high school principal asked him to meet with the principal and the girl's parents in his office. The girl's mother said she found a strange cellular telephone in her daughter's room, and then suspected that a sexual encounter had occurred. On Tuesday, the girl told the detective that Feazell gave her the phone so they could have secret voice and text conversations.

    ...

The detective met with Feazell this week at school, and says she admitted buying the phone for the girl. The detective seized Feazell's cell phone as part of the investigation.

On Tuesday, the girl told the detective about the sexual encounter with Feazell the previous Friday at Feazell's home. The girl also said she and Feazell had a "mother/daughter" type of relationship since she was in seventh grade. The girl gave the detective a security pass code for the phone, and said some of the text messages on it were about the sexual encounter. The girl also described Feazell's bedroom to the detective. When police executed a search warrant at Feazell's home on Thursday, they found things in the bedroom that the girl described.

Marshfield Teacher Charged with Sex Offenses Involving 16-Year-Old Student

Johnna L. Feazell is being held on $100,000 bond at the Webster County Jail. She was suspended from the Marshfield school district earlier in the week when the victim's parents reported their suspicions. According to court documents, the parents told investigators that an unfamiliar cellphone was found in the girl's room. The only contact, listed as "sweetheart," traced back to Feazell's phone and contained text messages detailing a sexual encounter on Oct. 10. Detectives said Feazell purchased the phone for the victim.

Johnna Feazell also works as a real-estate salesperson:

Note that she is using her school's email address for outside employment.

I suspect this extra-curricular employment will be short lived as folks will not want an accused sex criminal to have access to the lock boxes containing keys to their homes.

Judge won't reduce bond for teacher accused of sex with student

The first notice to 46 year old Johnna Feazell from her building principal in June 2013 ordered her to stop texting and writing letters to the now 16 year old victim. We went back to Marshfield Superintendent Mark Mayo, who says any private electronic communication between teachers and students is prohibited. Mayo says, "If it's a personal communication, it's supposed to be done in a manner that's available to the parent and available to the administrator of the building ...

Mayo says Feazell's second issue was different than the first, but said he couldn't share details. Court document say she tried to meet up with the victim at a friend's house because her parents wouldn't allow contact.

A judge denied lowering Feazell's $100,000 bond on Monday. Court documents say she tried to contact the victim even after her arrest and told the victim she would kill herself if she went to jail for this.

A former Marshfield teacher, who previously pleaded guilty to felony sex crimes involving a 16-year-old female student, was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison.
But, she could be out in just 120 days.
Johnna Feazell, who was a coach and eighth-grade teacher in the Webster County district, pleaded guilty in August to felony charges of statutory sodomy, sexual contact with a student, tampering with physical evidence and tampering with a witness.
She faced as many as 10 years in prison for the sodomy charge.
Feazell, 48, appeared before Judge Kenneth Foster Thompson on Monday afternoon in Webster County. She was given the following sentences, to run concurrently:
    • Seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for statutory sodomy with placement in the sex offender assessment program.
    • Four years in prison for sexual contact with a student.
    • Four years in prison for tampering with physical evidence.
Additionally, she received a suspended execution of sentence of seven years for attempted victim tampering.
Nanci Gonder, spokeswoman for the Missouri Attorney General’s Office — which prosecuted the case — said placement in the Missouri Department of Corrections' sex offender assessment unit means Feazell could be released, on probation, after 120 days if she does well in the program.
Feazell also has to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
