The female teacher [Jennifer Mason] is charged with four offences, including sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching and taught at Our Lady of Assumption School in the northwest. The victim was a student who attended the Catholic school where the teacher worked. Police say that the student was 15-years-old, when the contact first began. "The student was 15 years old at the time the incidents started," says Staff Sergeant Kelly Campbell, Child Abuse Unit. "Therefore, a student cannot consent to a sexual relationship with a person in a position of trust." The offences took place between August 2012 and November 2013. Police were notified about the situation when a member of the public reported suspicious activity inside a vehicle in northwest Calgary.​

The sexual relationship came to police attention when a member of the public reported what he thought was suspicious activity in a vehicle in a northwest Calgary community. When police arrived, they spoke to both parties and an investigation into the teacher began. On Thursday, Jennifer Mason was arrested without incident.​

Jennifer Mason, age 30, was an instructor at Our Lady of the Assumption Elementary School and has now been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of an investigation that she had a 15-month sexual relationship with a former student who was age 15 at the time the when the alleged crimes began in August, 2012. The whole sordid relationship came to light this past November when a person reported to police that a teenage boy and a woman were involved in “inappropriate interaction” in a car parked on the northeast side of Calgary.​
