"It's been real!" [but things will continue, just a bit differently]

After >2.5 years, approximately 510 cougars and almost 750 tomcats, not to mention another ~480 assorted miscreants, I've decided to quit running the daily searches for arrested teachers and adding new threads. I need to spend more quality time with my wife and house and cabin.

Perhaps when I retire in another 5-10 years, I will resume; perhaps not.

When I first started this site, it was actually possible to keep up, even to cover non-sexual stories such as drug busts, thefts and DWI's. Three back-to-back scandals in late 2011 / early 2012 fixed that: Penn State, The Citadel and Miramonte. Public awareness and reporting (especially after the Miramonte story broke) increased to the point that I could no longer keep with them, even focusing only on the sex crimes.

As time permits, I will update existing threads. Please remember that it typically takes 1.5 - 3 years (sometimes longer) for a felony case to work its way through our legal system.

Most threads where charges are dropped or the defendants are acquitted are eventually removed. In the short haul, if you have to ask, the answer is "no". I cull them on my own schedule, and readers are entitled to see the end of a story before it disappears completely.

Trying to keep this going with a bit of automation, you will find posts from RSS feeds here:

I have to filter them through a PHP program to clean up the links and some other stuff and (with Bing) to avoid a flood of duplicate entries.

The Bing News feed is live, still working on the Google News feed.

The feeds & filters have been up & running, no issues, since Sunday night. This pretty much automates the content posting. I just need to merge them & set the thread titles.

I tried to do this last summer, but Google had just killed their reader, which also provided their feeds, and I could find no documented feed option for Bing, which is the better of the two at finding miscreant teachers. I tried to create feeds from emailed alerts but could not get satisfactory results with Bing.

Since then, Google quietly reintroduced news feeds for their alerts, and I've learned that Bing has an apparently "secret", undocumented news feed option -- just add "&format=RSS" to your search URL.

Nice thing about this is that if I am going on vacation or taking a weekend off, the posts will pile up, but nothing will be missed, and my recurring issue with Firefox losing all my open tabs will no longer cause loss of unposted info for this site.
