    Police: Pittsburgh teacher expressed her 'deep love' for 11-year-old student

    More than 2,400 text messages were sent between an 11-year-old girl and one of her teachers, who expressed a "deep love" for each other and talked at times about the woman adopting the child and taking the girl away from home and being "on the run" for a while, Pittsburgh police said in a criminal complaint Tuesday. Geraldine Alcorn, 28, resigned from the Pittsburgh Beechwood Pre K-5 school earlier this month and was arrested at her Bloomfield home Tuesday evening. She faces a felony charge of criminal attempt-interference with custody of children, as well as misdemeanor charges of luring a child into motor vehicle and corruption of minors, according to an online docket.

    Former Pittsburgh Public School Teacher Allegedly Exchanged Hundreds Of Texts With 11-Year-Old

    According to the criminal complaint, [Geraldine Alcorn] alleged exchanged some 2,400 texts with the female student over a span of two weeks. The girl’s mother turned over her daughter’s iPod, which contained the text messages, to Pittsburgh Police. Alcorn reportedly taught the girl in several of her classes. The criminal complaint reports the girl’s mother found Alcorn in her home without her permission. She also allegedly found two letters written by the girl to Alcorn with the headings: “What we can do, and when we can do it.” The teacher is also accused of luring the girl into her home and allegedly talked of adopting her and running away with her, according to the criminal complaint.

    [Geraldine] Alcorn took the student ice skating and later lured the 11-year-old girl to her house, according to a criminal complaint. Another time, Alcorn was found alone with the girl in the student's home while the girl's mother was at work, according to the complaint. Police say Alcorn and the girl sent each other more than 2,400 text messages during a two-week span in late January and early February. In the messages, both expressed “a deep love for each other,” according to the complaint. The two also talked of Alcorn adopting the girl and discussed running away together. Alcorn told the girl they would “be on the run” for a while, according to the complaint. The girl told police she and Alcorn tried to keep their interactions a secret from the girl's mother.

    Ms. [Geraldine] Alcorn met with police Feb. 13 and was told several times that she could not have contact with the girl, the complaint said. She was put on administrative leave and resigned later ... On March 13, Ms. Alcorn went to the school to get her belongings, and three days later, the girl found gifts and letters, written by Ms. Alcorn, in her locker and desk. The letters told the girl to contact her, and an encrypted math worksheet also supplied the girl with Ms. Alcorn’s telephone number, the complaint said.

    Former teacher pleads no contest in student custody case

    A former Pittsburgh elementary school teacher who police say was obsessed with one of her 11-year-old students has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors. Twenty-nine-year-old Geraldine Alcorn of Lawrenceville entered her plea Wednesday and was sentenced to five years of probation. Prosecutors say Alcorn encrypted her phone number on the girl's math homework, exchanged thousands of text messages with her and even talked about adopting and running away with the girl before Alcorn resigned in March. Court records show Alcorn's sentence included that she have no contact with the girl or go within 1,000 yards ...
