The former caretaker of a Norwich primary school appeared in court today charged with making and possessing indecent images of children. Gavin Clark, formerly known as Glenn Clark, faces 16 counts in total. The 41-year-old appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning when the charges – 13 for making indecent images of a child or children and three for possessing indecent images of a child or children – were put to him.​

Gavin Clark, 41, was jailed for a year on Wednesday after admitting having nearly 4,000 indecent images. It emerged Clark had been living in a cupboard at at Eaton Primary School, Norwich, where he was site manager ... Clark was arrested last July after a makeshift bed and personal items were found in a cupboard at the school. Police found thousands of indecent images, including hundreds of the most serious kind, on a laptop computer, memory stick and SD card. Clark admitted three counts of possessing indecent images, and was jailed at Norwich Crown Court, which heard he had been living at the school after his marriage broke down.​

A caretaker lived in a cupboard in the primary school where he worked - with a huge stash of child porn pictures. avin Clark, 41, had secretly set up home in the school cupboard for several weeks last Spring after he divorced – and quietly carried on with his job. A court heard that it was only when he signed off sick and asked to collect “personal items” that his deception came to light. Shocked head Steve Portas discovered he had made the storage area a hideaway at the 360-pupil Eaton Primary School in Norwich, Norfolk.​

Clark’s computer, which police later found contained 1,749 indecent images of children, was in the room. Some were duplicated on the laptop, memory stick and SD card, making a total of 3,931 images. Norwich crown court heard 491 images were in the two most serious categories and showed children under-13. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the offences involve any children at the school.​

Gavin Clark had more than 2,000 images and films stored on his laptop, camera memory card and USB memory stick. Police found the material in an internal store cupboard at Eaton Primary School in Norwich, where Clark had been working, after a tip-off from his employers.​

A court heard how Clark had secretly set up home in a store cupboard at Eaton Primary School in Norwich for several weeks last year following his divorce. Clark had moved out of the hideaway after taking sick leave but contacted the school to request to pick up some "personal items" he had left there. It was then the school's headteacher Steve Portas discovered the makeshift living arrangements in the cupboard, along with his laptop, memory stick and SD card which contained a total of 3,931 indecent images. ​

He then lived and slept in the cramped space for several weeks without any of the staff realising what he was up to at 359-pupil Eaton Primary School in Norwich, Norfolk. Clark later went on sick leave and moved out of his secret home, but he called the school saying he wanted access to retrieve some personal items. Norwich Crown Court heard how head teacher Steve Portas then found the makeshift bed along with Clark's laptop computer in the cupboard. He contacted police and officers found 3,931 images of child porn on the computer, a memory stick and an SD memory card. ​

The court heard how there were 1,749 different indecent images, but some had been duplicated across the laptop, memory stick and SD card. The images included 484 classified at level four and five at level five - the most serious categories of abuse. More than 300 of those pictures showed children under 13. ​

Clark denied hunting out the child porn pictures on the internet and claimed they were on a memory card he had found near the school. He insisted he had copied them unwittingly while transferring other images on to the memory stick and computer. ​
