Police say she began sexting the teen – sending him explicit pictures and messages — escalating to a sexual encounter in a car. “They were extremely explicit — very detailed, very graphic, and totally inappropriate for a teacher to be communicating in this way with a student,” Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman told KYW Newsradio today. ​

Erica Ginnetti, a 33-year-old mother of 3 [ages 8, 11 and 14] from Philadelphia, first approached the 17-year-old boy at the prom last May and asked him if he wanted to work out at her gym. She then began to send sexually explicit texts, pictures, and videos to the teen over the next few months. That eventually led to an encounter in Ginnetti's car in July where they had sex. Police were tipped off this week from an anonymous call to the child abuse tip line saying they overheard rumors over the explicit relationship. Court records indicate that Ginnetti admitted to her actions.​

According to the authorities: The relationship began at the senior prom in May 2013 when [Erica] Ginnetti asked the student to join her at her gym for a workout. A few days later, the student emailed Ginnetti asking for her phone number. Ginnetti sent him her cellphone number, and the two began communicating daily. Over the next several months, Ginnetti allegedly sent sexual text messages, videos of herself undressing and performing sexual acts on herself and sexually suggestive photos of herself in her underwear and a bikini. The investigation revealed Ginnetti met the student at a coffee shop in Northeast Philadelphia in July 2013, and Ginnetti drove to a nearby industrial park where they had sexual intercourse, authorities said. Ginnetti then drove him back to the coffee shop and told him not to tell anyone about the encounter, authorities said.​

Lower Moreland police began an investigation after receiving a report Jan. 15 that a teacher at the high school “was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at the school,” the release said. [Erica] Ginnetti and a 17-year-old male at the high school were allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship that began in May 2013, when she allegedly approached him at the school’s senior prom and invited him to work out at her gym, the DA’s office said. The boy emailed her a few days later, and she gave him her cellphone number and they “began to communicate on a daily basis,” the report says. Ginnetti allegedly sent the youth a number of text messages that were sexual in nature over the next several months, including videos of her “undressing and performing sexual acts on herself, and several sexually suggestive photographs of her in her underwear and a bikini,” the DA’s office said. The two allegedly met at a coffee shop in Northeast Philadelphia in July 2013 and Ginnetti allegedly drove the boy to a nearby industrial park where the two had sexual intercourse, according to the release. Ginnetti then drove the boy back to the coffee shop “and asked him not to tell anyone about [it],” the release says.​

Lower Moreland police said they were tipped off last Wednesday via a phone line used for reporting possible abuses against children. The caller left a message saying they'd overhead students at the school talking about "inappropriate pictures of the minor and the teacher doing 'sexual things.'" Police then approached the 17-year-old who they say gave them a detailed account of how the relationship began and then evolved. [Erica] Ginnetti was arraigned Friday morning on 13 counts including sexual assault of a student, corruption of minors and disseminating obscene materials to a minor and released after posting $50,000 unsecured bail, according to court records. As part of her bail conditions, Ginnetti is not permitted to have contact with any children except for her own kids -- ages 8, 11 and 14. She also must surrender her passport and will be electronically monitored.​

Authorities allege [Erica] Ginnetti exchanged sexually charged text messages and videos with the 17-year-old boy, a student at Lower Moreland, on numerous occasions, which eventually led to a sexual encounter in her car in July 2013. “I would say that she treated her relationship with this student as she would have treated a relationship with an adult with whom she was involved. They were extremely explicit, very detailed, very graphic and totally inappropriate for a teacher to be communicating in this way with a student,” alleged Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, referring to the text and video exchanges between Ginnetti and the student. Ginnetti allegedly sent the youth several photographs of herself wearing only a bikini, underwear or a thong and a video that depicted her undressing in a sexually charged manner, according to court papers. Ginnetti and the teenager eventually agreed to meet at a Philadelphia location in July 2013, at which time the boy got into Ginnetti’s car and they drove to an industrial area where they parked and had a sexual encounter, according to the arrest affidavit. Authorities determined the location of the alleged sexual encounter was along the border of Lower Moreland Township and Philadelphia. After the sexual encounter, Ginnetti allegedly told the teenager not to tell anyone about the incident.​

Police said Erica Ann Ginnetti, 33, of Philadelphia, initiated the affair when she approached the teenager at a school dance in May and asked him to "come work out at her gym." Within weeks, they were communicating daily, and Ginnetti, who is married and has children, began sending him sexually charged text messages, photos, and videos of herself, police said. After they had sex last summer, the teacher allegedly told him not to tell anyone about the encounter.​

According to an affidavit, police learned about the relationship from a phone call to ChildLine, a statewide hotline to report suspected child abuse. The caller reported hearing a younger sibling, who had attended Lower Moreland, talking about inappropriate photos Ginnetti had sent the student. Police later confronted the alleged victim and Ginnetti, and both acknowledged their relationship, the affidavit said.​

In July, Ginnetti and the student met at a Starbucks store in Northeast Philadelphia, then went to an industrial park along the border of Philadelphia and Lower Moreland and had sex, police said. Investigators also retrieved copies of the text messages, photos, and videos from the student's cellphone.​

Guilty
Former Lower Moreland High School teacher Erica Ann Ginnetti, 34, pleaded guilty to institutional sexual assault and disseminating obscene and other sexual materials to a minor.

Ginnetti pleaded guilty to only two of the 13 counts she originally faced, according to court records. She remains out of jail on bail awaiting sentencing. She faces up to seven years behind bars when she is sentenced, according to prosecutors.
