Connecticut colleges, schools train teachers to avoid sexual misconduct When a teacher sexually assaults a student, the public is left wondering how it could happen. For those responsible for making policy and placing teachers in the classroom, the question is what can be done to prevent it. Stephen Hegedus, dean of the Southern Connecticut State University School of Education, said in order to be accepted to the education program, candidates – the term used for teachers in a training program – must meet several requirements, including making it through a round of interviews meant to evaluate for character.
