    News report for Friday Oct. 5:
    The trial date for a former Duval County Teacher of the Year candidate who was arrested in July on child sex battery charges has been set ... Bacca began working for the school district in 2008 when he was hired as a fourth grade teacher at Long Branch Elementary School. He transferred to Windy Hill Elementary School in January 2010 and was a Duval County Teacher of the Year candidate in 2012, as well as Windy Hill's Teacher of the Year.

    Christopher Robert Bacca, 27, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted sexual battery on a child younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation. Acting Circuit Judge Russell Healey sentenced him to 30 years for the first charge and 40 years for the second charge, but the two sentences will be served concurrently so he will be in prison for 40 years.

    A former Teacher of the Year semifinalist for Duval County was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting one of his students. Christopher Robert Bacca, 27, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted sexual battery on a child younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation. Acting Circuit Judge Russell Healey sentenced him to 30 years for the first charge and 40 years for the second charge, but the two sentences will be served concurrently so he will be in prison for 40 years.

    He was designated a sexual predator, and Healey also told Bacca he would be on probation for the rest of his life and could still face civil commitment proceedings under the Jimmy Ryce Act when his prison term ended.
