    A grand jury in Cole County indicted Christopher Knehans Tuesday on two counts of sexual contact with a student. Two separate incidents alledgedly took place, one on September 10, 2011 and one on September 23, 2011. Both incidents involved the same victim, a female student at Jefferson City High School.

    KRCG: Jefferson City teacher indicted for sexual contact with a student (Oct 19 2011)

    A Jefferson City band teacher was indicted on Tuesday for a class D felony of sexual contact with a student by a Cole County Grand Jury. Chris Knehans is the band teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and an assistant at Jefferson City High School. JCPS spokesperson David Luther said Knehans was put on administrative leave on Sept. 27.

    A Jefferson City band teacher accused of sexual contact with a student resigned from his position as a teacher Wednesday morning ... David Luther, Jefferson City Public Schools Spokesman, told KRCG the Board of Education accepted [Christopher] Knehans’ resignation subject to his permanent surrender of his Missouri Teaching License to the state.

    Christopher Knehans resigned Wednesday from the Jefferson City Public Schools, effective Saturday. Knehans, 37, a band teacher at both Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Jefferson City High School, had been on paid leave since last September, when school district officials first heard he might be involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The seven-member Board of Education unanimously accepted the resignation during a 15-minute closed session Wednesday morning. Then they approved a resolution explaining their decision, saying they "determined that it is in the best interest of the District's students ... and all potential witnesses to avoid the necessity of a public hearing (and) the Board of Education has ensured that Mr. Christopher Knehans will no longer be eligible to teach in the State of Missouri."

    A former Jefferson City band teacher pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct Monday morning. Chris Knehans' guilty plea was for two counts of felony sexual misconduct involving a high school student ... With Knehans' plea agreement this morning, he accepted a sentence of 30-60 days of incarceration for one of the sexual misconduct charges.

    The final sentencing for former Jefferson City High School teacher Christopher Knehans was decided Wednesday morning. Judge Daniel Green sentenced Knehans to 60 days in Cole County Jail and three years on supervised probation ... According to the judge, Knehans will have to register as a lifetime sex offender.

    KOMU: Former Missouri Teacher Sentenced to 60 Days (Feb 21 2013)

    The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports that Christopher Knehans's attorney argued for a 30-day sentence Wednesday. But Judge Dan Green Wednesday ordered the maximum 60 days allowed by the plea agreement, beginning immediately ... Under the sentence, Knehans will serve three years supervised probation after he is released from the jail. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.
