WDRB: POLICE: JCPS volleyball coach allegedly sent explicit texts to 15-year-old (Sept 20 2013) According to an arrest warrant, 39-year-old Casey Kays "continuously texted and called" the 15-year-old from July 1 to Sept. 18.Police say he sent messages "telling her that he loves her and wants to see her naked." Kays allegedly admitted to one of the girl's parents that he had a sexual relationship with her, and refused to stop contacting her, despite multiple requests from the parent, and a letter from JCPS. In addition to being the girl's teacher, police say he was also her volleyball coach.

Casey Kays, who taught ninth-grade social studies and coached volleyball, was indicted on charges of third-degree rape, which addresses sex with minors, and third-degree sodomy, according to court records. ...The girl initially told her mother the relationship was sexual, then recanted to her mother and investigators, before telling prosecutors she and the teacher had a sexual relationship. It began, she told prosecutors, on the last day of school — June 5, 2013 — when she told him “she had feelings for him,” according to a document filed by the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office with the evidence. WAVE 3: JCPS teacher, coach charged with rape, sodomy (Nov 15 2013) According to court documents, on October 30, Casey Kays, 39, was indicted on charges of rape and sodomy involving a person less than 16 years of age ... Kays previous charge of unlawful transaction with a minor was filed in September. According to an arrest warrant Kays repeatedly called and sent text messages sexual in nature to a 15-year-old. The warrant also stated Kays was warned by JCPS stop making contact with the teen, but refused to do so.
Fmr. teacher accused of having sexual relationship with student takes stand in trial Kays admitted that he and the student shared numerous text messages, emails and other forms of communication during last summer. He also said he did kiss her multiple times and sat with her alone in his car. Barber asked Kays how he could not know that even that type of communication and relationship was inappropriate. "I did think it was inappropriate,” Kays said. “I do know it was inappropriate. I don't know why last summer I felt I wanted to do this that. I felt it was okay to kiss her." Kays claimed the alleged victim told him that her mother was pressuring her to say there was a sexual relationship so the family could get money in a civil suit. "I know she said that because she was bribed, manipulated, coerced, threatened to be moved out of her school and bribed with money to lie about it," he said. On cross examination the prosecution came at Kays with text messages they claim were sent from him to the alleged victim. In those texts were explicit details that the prosecution claims show a sexual relationship did in fact happen.
