Permian trainer resigns amid investigation into student relationship

The Permian High School athletic trainer who is being investigated for having an improper relationship with a 19-year-old male student resigned on Wednesday. April Collins, 28, turned in her letter of resignation sometime Wednesday, according to Communications Director Mike Adkins. Collin's is currently being investigated by Ector County ISD police, according to Interim Superintendent H.T. Sanchez.​

Permian trainer apologizes in resignation letter

The Permian High School athletic trainer who is under investigation for an inappropriate relationship with a 19-year-old male student apologized in her resignation letter to Ector County ISD, according to the letter received by the Odessa American in a public records request. Collins, 28, resigned on Wednesday at 9:50 a.m. according to the timestamp on the letter. ECISD Communications Director Mike Adkins alerted the media of her resignation Thursday morning.​

Former Permian trainer Collins indicted

A second former ECISD employee has been arrested in connection with reports of improper relationships with students. April Collins, 28, was arrested Monday morning in connection with four June 10 indictments accusing her of an improper relationship between a teacher and a student ... According to an Ector County District Attorney’s Office news release, the four counts include sending sexually explicit pictures as well as online solicitation of a student.​

Second Former Permian Teacher Arrested for Improper Relationship With Student

April Collins is accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 19-year-old student. The former Permian High School trainer resigned in April amid the allegations. On June 10, a grand jury indicted Collins on four counts of improper relationship between an educator and student and online solicitation of a student ... According to the indictment, Collins sent the student pictures of her breasts and her genitals along with explicit text messages describing oral sex and sexual intercourse with the student. The indictment also said that Collins also offered to rent a room so two could meet. ​

GUILTY
April 1, 2016
Former Permian High School athletic trainer April Collins pleaded guilty to one count of improper relationship between a student and an educator Friday morning and was sentenced to three years deferred adjudication probation.
The almost three-year-old case came to an end in Judge James Rush’s 244th District Court with the plea deal. Collins was also issued a $750 fine and will permanently surrender her teaching certificate as part of her probation. She will not have to register as a sex offender.
