Lauren Harrington-Cooper

Lauren began her dancing career at the age of four. By the time she turned seven, she had studied under the late Constance Reynolds, former Ballet Mistress of Edinburgh University and a member of the Royal Academy of dance. At nine years old, Lauren was given the honor of being selected to perform as a demonstrator for the prestigious Dance Educators of America conference in New York City. In 2010, Lauren became certified in Zumba training and is currently a teacher of English in the Wyoming Valley West School District.​

WNEP: Teacher Charged With Having Sex With Student (Dec 19 2013)

Investigators said Thursday morning, the parents of a high school senior told the principal they found explicit sexual text messages between their son and a teacher, later identified as [Lauren] Cooper. A county detective said Cooper admitted to having oral sex and sexual intercourse with the student in her car several times. She was charged with insitutional sex assault, a felony and released on bail.​

According to a criminal complaint, the student’s parents came to the high school Thursday and told Principal Erin Keating they discovered inappropriate text messages between their son and a female teacher. The parents said their son borrowed his mother’s laptop computer the night before to do school work and they found he was using a free texting website called Pinger. When reviewing the messages, the parents discovered their son was having a sexually explicit converstaion with a teacher. In the text messages, the teacher is identified as Lauren, having Crohn’s disease, being a vegetarian and teaching eighth period in Room 401, which led school administration to identify the teacher as Harrington-Cooper, the complaint alleges.​

Keating immediately informed Plymouth police officer Gina Kotowski, the school resource officer at the high school, and Kotowski contacted the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. Detective Charles Balogh was assigned to assist Kotowski. According to the victim, his sister told him that Harrington-Cooper texted her that her brother was “hot.” He said he got Harrington-Cooper’s cellphone number from his sister and later that day started texting her and they agreed to “hang out.” The victim told police Harrington-Cooper would pick him up either around the corner from his house or in front of his house and that she performed oral sex on him three times and that they had intercourse twice, court papers state.​

Kotowski said Harrington-Cooper was cooperative in the investigation, and Balogh said she admitted to having sex with the student. She told police she began texting with the victim on Dec. 13 and knew he was a senior in high school. Police said she admitted to having intercourse with the victim on two occasions and performing oral sex on him at least once, all of which occurred in her vehicle. Harrington-Cooper is a lunch monitor during the victim’s lunch period.​

According to court documents [Lauren Harrington-Cooper] had sex with a male student from Wyoming Valley West High School. An affidavit indicates that the boy's parents found out their son was having an inappropriate conversation on the free texting website Pinger. That's when they came to school officials to alert them to the problem. Detectives claim that at one point Harrington-Cooper texted the boys sister saying her brother was "hot". Police told Eyewitness News that Harrington-Cooper admitted to picking up the boy and driving around and they say that's when the two would have sex.​

Sources said Friday that Lauren Harrington-Cooper, 31, of Winola Avenue, Kingston, is under medical care due to an attempt to harm herself. It was not immediately known if Harrington-Cooper was committed to a medical facility ... Harrington-Cooper is associated with the Cooper Dance Studio, operated by her husband, Raphael, in Kingston. Raphael Cooper posted on the studio’s Facebook page Thursday night that dance classes were canceled due to a family emergency. Another post on Friday stated Raphael “will address all of the members of our studio as to our future” after the holidays, and to keep everyone in his family in their prayers “as we confront the days ahead.”​

For the second time in less than a month, Wyoming Valley West high school teacher Lauren Harrington-Cooper has been arrested on charges of having sexual relations with a student, with an affidavit in the case revealing graphic details of her alleged encounter with a 17-year-old male. “I’m the only candy you need,” Harrington-Cooper, 31, allegedly told the teen after he asked her for a piece of candy in the hallway at school. Police said Harrington-Cooper performed oral sex on the student in a car in November on James Street in Kingston.​

 

Citizens Voice: WVW teacher faces charges for sexual encounter with 2nd students (Jan 9 2014)

Harrington-Cooper, 31, of Kingston, is facing charges of sexual contact with a student and corruption of minors. The alleged offense took place in the fall and involved a different student than the first incident, Luzerne County Detective Chaz Balough said. The affidavit alleges Harrington-Cooper and a 17-year-old student began communicating by text and met up multiple times between October and November of last year. The victim told police on one occasion, he picked up Harrington-Cooper at her home on Winola Avenue in Kingston and the two drove around for 90 minutes in the Back Mountain. They then returned to her home and kissed in the vehicle, according to police. The victim told police the texting continued and they met up outside of school on another occasion during which Harrington-Cooper performed oral sex on the 17-year-old in a parked car outside a house in Kingston, according to the affidavit.​
