    Investigator hired in Yonkers teacher union case

    The American Federation of Teachers has hired Thomas “Toby” Thacher of K2 Thacher Associates to investigate two Yonkers Federation of Teachers leaders recorded in a hidden-camera video giving advice on covering up child abuse. "We have asked Thacher to lead a thorough investigation of all sides of the episode. The scope will include determining if there was any breach of the professional and ethical obligations that these teacher union officials have to our students, parents, educators and the broader community," AFT president Randi Weingarten said in a statement.     Reisman: Yonkers IG calls for removal of union chiefs

    Fire them. Do it now. That is the blunt, unambiguous recommendation from the Yonkers inspector general charged with looking into the case of Pat Puleo and Paul Diamond — the teachers union officials whose off-the-cuff advice on how to avoid reporting child abuse was recorded by a hidden camera. Brendan McGrath, the city’s inspector general, said in a June 27 letter that Puleo and Diamond “failed to cooperate in that they refused to answer questions directly related to the investigation.” For that reason, he said, they should be “immediately terminated.” A full report will be released "imminently," McGrath said Wednesday. ...
