    Kennewick officials didn’t ask enough questions about teacher’s sleepover trips, argues attorney

    It was well-known at Kennewick High School that William “Bill” Pickerel took students on out-of-town trips. And at least some staffers knew the teacher was sharing a bed with students on those trips, attorney Jeff Kreutz told a Benton County jury on Wednesday. Yet, the Kennewick School District didn’t ask enough questions or stop Pickerel, who eventually admitted to abusing boys on some of the trips, Kreutz said. The district’s top responsibility is to protect its students and it clearly failed, Kreutz told the jury.     Jury weighs teacher abuse case against Kennewick school

    A Benton County jury has found that the Kennewick School District was not liable in the abuse of two former students by a predatory teacher. The Tri-City Herald reports that jurors on Monday could not reach a decision related to two other former students and their claims ended in a mistrial. The former students sued the district, saying it knew or should have known that longtime teacher and coach William Pickerel was a danger and failed to protect them.     Jury says Kennewick School District not liable for 2 students’ abuse by former teacher

    A Benton County jury on Monday cleared the Kennewick School District of negligence in the alleged abuse of two former students by a once-revered teacher and coach who turned out to be a child molester.
