    US Justice System: Prosecuting Minors as Adults Has Done More Harm Than Good

    A separate and individual juvenile justice system has existed in the United States for over a century, yet the country continues to prosecute minors as adults. The tough-on-crime approach adopted by the country during the 20th century has done more harm than good. The lack of a descriptive system has allowed the police, prosecutors and judges to penalise children for insignificant crimes, much before their cognitive facilities are fully developed. In the 1990s, the number of minors facing adult charges skyrocketed as a result of a false and racist theory that a new wave of “super-predators” was on the rise. ...
