    Toomey pitching school predator bill

    U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey visited the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center on Friday, touting a bipartisan bill to keep sexual predators out of schools. Toomey’s bill requires schools to perform more-extensive background checks on all new and existing employees and bans school officials from allowing employees suspected of sex crimes to quietly resign and find jobs elsewhere. The bill would also ban schools that get federal funds from hiring persons who have been convicted of certain crimes, including any violent or sexual crime against a child. “Last year alone, 459 school employees were arrested for sexual misconduct with the children ...
