Tanner Cervo, 37, who previously taught at Chief Dan George Middle School, has been charged with one count of sexual interference, one count of sex assault, and two counts of sexual exploitation. Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the charges were sworn in court on April 16, following an investigation that began in August 2012. He said the alleged offences involve one girl, and police did not find any other complainants during their investigation.​

On April 17, the district “was advised that ... charges of sexual misconduct were filed by the Abbotsford police against Mr. Tanner Cervo,” Godden said in the statement ... He said the district was notified of the allegations in August, 2012 and they took immediate action. “The Abbotsford School District responded quickly when we first became aware of the allegations about Mr. Cervo in August, 2012,” he notes. “The matter was referred at that time to the Abbotsford Police Department and the Teacher Regulation Branch. The investigation since then has been led by the Abbotsford Police.​

Robert Tanner Cervo was a science and math teacher at Dan George Middle School up until last year, when a female youth came forward with a complaint. According to police, Cervo was charged following a lengthy investigation.​
