A sixth-grade teacher at Summit Middle School in Johnston was arrested Thursday on federal charges stemming alleged attempts to entice minors on the Internet for sex over the past year and a half. School officials said Steven Lee Williams, 32, of Windsor Heights, was placed on administrative leave following his arrest.

He had Internet conversations from July 2010 to October 2011 with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old female but was Clinton County Sheriff's deputy Jessup Schroeder. The chats became sexual in nature, and in those chats Williams stated he intended to travel to Low Moor, Iowa, to meet the minor. On Oct. 16 and Oct. 25, Williams transmitted two images of his genitals to the minor.

Steven Lee Williams, 32, of Windsor Heights has a preliminary court hearing on Monday ... he corresponded with a girl he thought was 13 in an “Iowa Romance” chat room and later sent her an obscene photo of his genitalia. In the other instance, he engaged in illicit chats with the officer, who was this time posing as a 15-year-old Clinton teen. In that case, Williams discussed various sex acts he would liked performed, asked if she wanted to text, and sent the undercover agent his phone number. In both cases, he used the screen name “loveto pleasetheladies2001.”

William’s chatting with the “13-year-old girl” started with Yahoo messaging in an “Iowa Romance” chat room. In a chat, Williams went as far as to send the girl an explicit photo of his genitalia. Later, the teacher began chatting with what he thought was a 15-year-old, but was actually engaging in illicit chats with another undercover cop. On this occasion, Williams sent his phone number to the undercover agent.
