KSL: Union High School teacher accused of sex abuse (Apr 10 2013) Duchesne County prosecutors have filed a felony charge against a Union High School teacher, accusing him of fondling a teenage girl. Shawn V. Mitchell, 41, was charged Wednesday in 8th District Court with one count of forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony. Prosecutors said the alleged fondling incident, which happened in October 2004, did not involve one of Mitchell's students or take place at Union High School. Roosevelt police detective Pete Butcher said a woman came forward earlier this year and told investigators Mitchell fondled her when she was under the age of 18. The reported sex abuse happened in October of 2004, according to court records ... Mitchell is due in court April 25 for an initial appearance.
The crazy thing is, the girl in this story, was not a student of Mr. Mitchell's, the incident did not happen on campus, and the girl admits to coming on to him! And she was not 16, she was 17, and close to her 18th Bday! I'm not excusing this mans actions--he is married, but this girl is STILL trying to contact him...hmmmmmm....kind of makes one wonder why she would suddenly go to the police about this now, eh? Maybe she was told to go away?? At any rate, there's certainly more to this story, and the girl herself has outed her part in it!
