    Edith Maxwell had been out all night on July 20, 1935. When she arrived home early the next morning, she discovered that her father, Trigg, had waited up. He was furious and greeted her with harsh words and threats. The 21-year-old school teacher responded by beating him to death with a high-heel shoe. Although mostly forgotten today, the case of the “Slipper Slayer” would become a national sensation.
