    Arlington Middle employee arrested, school officers reprimanded in abuse investigation


    Two Duval School Police employees have been reprimanded after an apparently lacking investigation resulted in a young teen being jailed for nine days. Now, the teen is out of custody, and the school employee he’s accused of battering has been arrested instead. This all stems from an incident in December between a 13-year-old and 14-year-old at Arlington Middle School and Intervention Paraprofessional Robert Fields. The District investigation says the teens disobeyed their substitute teacher by going to play outside, and ignoring her when she ordered them back in.     School employee charged with child abuse; Botched investigation brings policy change

    A Duval County Schools employee is facing child abuse charges and a school police officer has been temporarily suspended following a 2015 incident at Arlington Middle School. After the altercation, a student was arrested and put in jail for more than a week. A report from the district shows that the investigation into what led to the arrest was not thorough and a teacher is charged with child abuse. The December 2015 incident has also resulted in changes for how school police investigations are handled.     Video shows school guard putting Florida middle-schoolers in chokeholds

    A surveillance video the CBS affiliate here says the school district wanted kept under wraps shows a now-former security guard grabbing two students and slamming them to the ground. It took four months of public records requests for WJAX-TV to get the video from the State Attorney’s Office. The incident occurred in a hallway of the Arlington Middle School’s building for students in the Emotional or Behavioral Disability program.
