    Black Lives leaders were targeted for arrest after speaking at N.J. rally, lawsuit says

    Two leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement claim in a lawsuit they were arrested by Paterson police two years ago after speaking at a rally held following the death of Jameek Lowery. Lowery, 27, died in a hospital Jan. 7, 2019, two days after showing up at Paterson police headquarters pleading for help. Officers had sent him away in an ambulance and family members believed he had been beaten. A state medical examiner later determined Lowery died from drugs and medical problems and not at the hands of police. Days of protests followed Lowery’s death. On Jan. 11, 2019, ...
