    New Clarke superintendent calls for audits in schools’ handling of sex crime cases

    New Clarke County schools Superintendent Demond Means said he would undertake external audits of last year’s controversial rape case at Cedar Shoals High School and a more recent situation in which police charged a substitute teacher and coach with child molestation. Means said he wouldenlist an outside law firm with no connection to the school district to conduct the investigations with the help of independent, expert analysts. The audits would address three areas — legal policies and procedures, including the question of whether Clarke administrators and investigators followed their own policies; communications regarding the situations; and security protocols, said Means. ...
