Elizabeth Graham, the mother of the 13-year-old student, filed a report saying there were more than 200 inappropriate text messages sent to her son. Graham says the over-the-phone relationship between teacher and student began June 9. The teen gave his phone to his parents. That's when they discovered the text messages ... Graham says other parents have also come forward about Mantooth having inappropriate conversations with their children.

Megan Mantooth, 26, is a popular eighth grade math teacher at Burgaw Middle School, located in Burgaw, North Carolina, where her husband is a deputy sheriff. Mantooth has been charged with cybertalking, allegedly sending "hundreds" of text messages to her student, which included "a lot of sexual innuendos," according to the boy's mother, Elizabeth Graham. According to Graham, Mantooth obtained her son's cellphone number from a fellow student and started texting the child on June 8.

... the teacher signed a guilty plea and wrote an apology letter to the family. She got three years probation, a punishment the Grahams said could have been much worse. "We could have followed through with the meeting at the beach house and it would have turned into a felony," said Elizabeth. Mrs. Graham claims that Mantooth blamed postpartum depression as the reason for her actions.
