Matthew Varpness, 36, teacher at Exeter Union High School & Wilson Middle School, Exeter Public Schools, Exeter, California, "sexually assaulted a minor female" Exeter teacher arrested, faces child molestation charges Visalia police arrested the teacher before the first bell even rang. On Thursday, Visalia police were called by Exeter police. [Matthew] Varpness is accused of sexually assaulting an Exeter High female student in April of last year. "Our detectives got involved from our violent crimes unit, they began investigating and found that the assault did in fact occur in April 2014," said Sgt. Damon Maurice with the Visalia Police Department. Maurice says the alleged assault happened at the suspect's home in Visalia. Police say Varpness began sending sexually explicit text messages after the apparent attack. Maurice added detectives quickly found another victim. There was an additional female student at Exeter High School that also stated that this teacher was sending explicit sexual texts and photographs back and forth," said Maurice. Police Arrest Exeter Teacher For Alleged Sexual Assault of Student Police arrested 36-year-old Matthew Varpness Friday. Varpness is a teacher at Exeter High and Wilson Middle School. Visalia police are handling the investigation because they allege Varpness sexually assaulted a student in his Visalia home where they served a search warrant. "Our detectives got involved from our violent crimes unit and found that the crime did in fact occur in April of 2014 with the teacher and one female student," said Damon Maurice, public information officer with the Visalia Police Department. Police arrested Varpness Friday morning as he arrived for work at Exeter High. Detectives said the investigation now involves two students. "Our detectives found a second female victim from the school who also stated this teacher was also sending the sexually explicit photographs to her as well," Maurice said.
