The English teacher [Korey Abercrombie] at Central High School is on paid administrative leave after a 17-year-old female student told authorities an embrace with Abercrombie turned into something more. He turned himself in to Columbus Police (the alleged incident reportedly taking place in Columbus) last week and is charged with sexual battery ... Officials in the Columbus Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit say the teen reported that Abercrombie drove her to a family member's home in Columbus, hugged her, then allegedly touched her inappropriately. When the girl indicated that's not what she wanted, police say Abercrombie drove her back to school in Phenix City.

Ledger-Enquirer said:

Corey Abercrombie, an English teacher at Central High in Phenix City, turned himself in to police on a warrant today at around 2 p.m. The 35-year-old Abercrombie was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery. The charge typically means a person has intentionally made physical contact with the intimate parts of another person without consent. The charge against Abercrombie stems from an incident that occurred in Columbus on April 29, but no details were given in the police report.

Phenix City School superintendent, Dr. Larry DiChiara, says he bases his decision let Korey Abercrombie back in the classroom on the following:

1. His was charged with a misdemeanor
2. He was let out on bail. If he was a menace to society a judge would not have let him out.
3. The incident did not happen on school grounds.

Dr. DiChiara adds Abercrombie is a senior English teacher and he wanted him in the classroom to give seniors their final exams.

WBRL News 3 said:

In the same month- 12th grade Central High teacher- Corey Abercrombie- was put on administrative leave after a student told police that he came to her house and told police that he "felt” on her. Abercrombie was later allowed to return to work because Superintendent Dr. Larry DiChiara says the charge against him is a misdemeanor.
