    Boltons denied acquittal, new trial


    Former Forrest County Chief Deputy Charles Bolton and his wife Linda have been denied their request for an acquittal and new trial. The ruling was issued Friday afternoon by District Judge Keith Starrett, regarding their Sept. 15, 2016, conviction for attempted tax evasion and filing false tax returns. "After considering the submissions of the parties, the record, and the applicable law, the court finds that these motions are not well taken and should be denied," Starrett said. Charles was convicted on four counts of tax evasion, not guilty on one count of tax evasion and guilty on all five counts ...
