9 MSN: Dance teacher sent girls texts 'at all hours' (July 18 2013)

The prosecution said police found messages sent to several girls in a "pattern of behaviour that has been quite intense for a number of years". Justice Simpson said there was no way to be sure Davies would not try to contact victims if he was released. "History shows Davies has made prolific use of electronic media in contacting children for sexual purposes," she said.

Police say they have now charged the man with 37 additional charges, including 14 counts of aggravated sexual assault, 18 counts of aggravated indecent assault and four counts of aggravated acts of indecency. Sydney Morning Herald: Sydney dance teacher Grant Davies refused bail (July 18 2013)

A court has refused Sydney dance teacher Grant Davies' request to be released from custody just days after police laid dozens of extra child sex assault charges against him. The former co-director of RG Dance, in Sydney's inner west, applied for bail in the Supreme Court of NSW on Thursday but it was refused. His application came after police charged him with an extra 37 sex and indecent assault charges on Tuesday bringing the total number of offences to 47. The accused appeared in court via audio-video link, constantly wiping his nose with a tissue and running his hands through his hair repeatedly.

    ...

The court heard police had six volumes of evidence containing thousands of text messages Davies allegedly sent to several underage girls "at all hours of the night". "[There is] a pattern of behaviour that has been quite intense for a number of years," the prosecution said. Justice Simpson said there was no way to be sure he would not try to contact victims or access the internet if he was released from custody. "History shows Davies has made prolific use of electronic media in contacting children for sexual purposes," she said. "[There is] a large volume of electronic material which is highly incriminating."

Western Australia Today: Davies kept computer out of police inquiry (July 19 2013)

Details of how Mr [Grant] Davies, 39, obstructed a police investigation more than five years ago emerged when he applied for bail at the Supreme Court of NSW on Thursday, facing a total of 47 offenses ... The Supreme Court heard Mr Davies had admitted to his wife he disposed of a computer after police began investigating child sex offence allegations in 2007. At the time he was accused of sending students explicit emails about his sexual fantasies, including a desire for a ''threesome'' with two of them, court documents previously seen by Fairfax Media say. He was never charged and continued to teach at the dance school, going interstate with students for performances and competitions. 'There was an investigation in 2007 where [Mr Davies] disposed of material which may have been relevant to [the] investigation,'' Justice Simpson said. ''History shows Davies has made prolific use of electronic media in contacting children for sexual purposes.'' The prosecution argued Mr Davies continued his sexually inappropriate behaviour after 2007, despite knowing he was the subject of police attention. ''[The] investigation didn't put a blip in his behaviour.''
