    Experts share insight on school employee screening process after arrests in Central Florida

    In the last week alone, we have reported two cases involving a teacher/coach and school resource officer having an inappropriate relationship with a student. On Tuesday, Polk County deputies arrested 26-year-old Richard Alcalde of Lakeland after investigators say he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old student two times. On Monday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office arrested former school resource officer Christian Linan for lewd and lascivious battery on a juvenile victim. Osceola County School Board Member Julius Melendez, whose district is not involved with these cases, says all district employees and volunteers are fingerprinted and background checked, a process that is mandated ...
