The Crown has filed notice that it will appeal the acquittal of Erin Osmond, a high school teacher who was criminally charged for a relationship she had with her former student. In May, Justice Grant Currie found Osmond, 29, not guilty of two counts of sexual exploitation in connection to the relationship she had with a 16-year-old boy in 2013 in the Watrous area. "Our plan is to argue the appeal as vigorously as we defended at trial," said defence lawyer Leslie Sullivan, who continues to represent Osmond. She offered no further comment. Watrous, Sask. teacher Erin Osmond loses certificate after sexual dalliance with former student

The province is cancelling the teaching certificate of a Watrous substitute teacher who had a sexual relationship with a former student. Erin Osmond had been charged with sexual exploitation in connection with the romantic relationship in the spring of 2013. She was cleared of that charge at trial last year. In court, Justice Grant Currie said that Osmond was not in a position of trust after she stopped being the 16-year-old boy's teacher.
