    Detention deputy charged with hitting inmate with flashlight

    A detention deputy with the Broward Sheriff's Office is accused of hitting an inmate. The Broward County State Attorney's Office charged Delroy Rose, 56, with one count of misdemeanor battery. Investigators said he hit an inmate with a flashlight in the infirmary at the North Broward Bureau Jail in Pompano Beach on Oct. 29, 2020. Rose is accused of striking the 24-year-old inmate's hands and fingers while trying to close a cell door flap. A court date for Rose has yet to be set. He faces a maximum of one year in jail if convicted.
