    TEMECULA: Teacher accused of sexting with 16-year-old student

    A Temecula-area teacher pleaded not guilty Thursday to distributing lewd material to a minor after authorities say she traded sexual text messages with a 16-year-old student earlier this year. Brittany Nichole Fleming, 29, of Murrieta, had worked as a teacher at Temecula Preparatory School in French Valley and served as coach of the girls’ basketball team. School officials said Fleming has not been employed by the school since Feb. 4.

    The inappropriate messages with the student came to light Feb. 1 after Fleming’s husband discovered several of them on her cellphone, Riverside County court records show. The husband called Murrieta police out to their home about 12:30 a.m. saying that he was restraining his wife, who was trying to overdose on medication, arrest warrant documents say. The husband said he had confronted his wife about the sexual text messages and she admitted that she had been exchanging messages with the boy for a few weeks, court records say. Police detained Fleming and took her for a 72-hour mental evaluation ... A search of her cell phone and the teen’s phone uncovered more than 800 text messages from the month of January, as well as four photographs showing the teacher or student in their underwear, court records say.    ​
