Officials at Jefferson High School in Monroe, Mich. are investigating after a band teacher is said to have duct-taped a student's ankles to a chair to correct her posture. The teacher, Brian Sullivan, is on paid leave pending the investigation. Some fellow students tell FOX 2's Andrea Isom the teacher just did it as a joke and did not mean anything cruel by it. "[The student] wasn't upset. She just kind of sat there and was like, 'Okay,' and just dealt with it. Jefferson teacher suspended over duct tape incident

    31 March 2014

The Jefferson High School band teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave after he reportedly duct-taped a student’s ankles to her chair to enhance proper posture that is required when playing instruments. Parents have identified the teacher as Brian Sullivan, and several students have been petitioning the school to return him to the classroom in time for the band’s trip to Florida next month.

Mrs. Barron said the problem with suspending Mr. Sullivan for an extended time could jeopardize the band’s trip to Florida where members are planning to perform at Disney World. They are scheduled to leave April 9. “The kids have worked very hard for this trip all year,” she said. “The kids have earned this.”

Lawsuit Claims Honor Student Repeatedly Sexually Harassed By Band Teacher, Students

    27 August 2014

A 16-year-old high school honor student in Monroe was repeatedly sexually harassed by her band instructor and classmates after reporting an inappropriate incident, according to a lawsuit. The complaint, filed Tuesday in federal court, alleges that Jefferson High School administrators allowed the band teacher, Brian Sullivan, to create a sexually harassing and violent environment. The lawsuit also alleges that Sullivan inappropriately touched female students or requested that the female students inappropriately touched him during class.

The complaint further states that Sullivan was violent with students, punching and kicking equipment in the room when he was angry, and would talk about his personal life and describe the physical characteristics of the women he dated. The complaint explains how any of the girls who didn’t “play ball” were retaliated against, including the 16-year-old, identified in the lawsuit as BML.
