    Teacher-student sex law challenged

    Former Brookwood High School teacher Brad Petrey was 27 when he was accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with one of his students. The student was 18 at the time, meaning she would have been two years beyond the age of consent and a sexual relationship would have been legal if he hadn't been a teacher. When the alleged affair became public last summer, police arrested Petrey and charged him with breaking a law passed by the Alabama Legislature in 2010 prohibiting any school employee from engaging in sexual activity with any student 19 or younger.
