    A priest in Oregon was indicted by a grand jury on drug and sex crimes


    A grand jury indicted a Eugene, Oregon, priest and teacher on sex and drug crimes. Daniel Mackay pleaded not guilty to all counts Wednesday. He was released on a $14,000 supervised release agreement. Mackay is a priest St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Church. He also teaches writing at Lane Community College. The grand jury returned an indictment charged Mackway with felony Attempting to Use a Minor in a Controlled Substance Offense. The grand jury also returned 9 misdemeanor charges, including four counts of prostitution, four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and a misdemeanor count of sexual misconduct. ...

    Former priest Daniel Mackay was convicted on three counts of prostitution last year, specifically for soliciting a 17-year-old girl for sex, but he’ll still be teaching at Lane Community College this fall term, even though his conviction may fall under “potentially disqualifying crimes” for employment, according to the school’s background check policy.
