    Closing arguments wrapped up today in the case of Tanya Pontbriand, a former Rosemere high school gym teacher accused of having a relationship with a 15-year-old student ... The former teacher has been in the news since 2007, when the student went to police alleging he and Pontbriand had had more than 200 sexual encounters between 2002 and 2004 ... Last May, the boy’s mother testified that she became suspicious of the nature of the relationship when Pontbriand began calling and coming by their home.​

    A former gym teacher has been convicted of sexual assault, following claims from a 15-year-old student that they had sex more than 200 times. Tania Pontbriand, who taught gym at a high school just outside of Montreal, was accused of having a romantic relationship with the teen between 2002 and 2004, when she was 32 the Toronto Sun reports. In a 150-page judgment, cited by CTV News Montreal, Judge Valmont Beaulieu spurned the defence's argument that the student's testimony was unreliable.​

    A former Quebec high school teacher who sexually exploited her 15-year-old student shouldn’t be sent to jail, her lawyer argued in Gatineau court on Wednesday. In a dramatic sentencing hearing, Tania Pontbriand’s family and friends pleaded with Justice Valmont Beaulieu to spare the mother of two from being separated from her children.     Teacher who had sexual relationship with student gets jail time

    A former physical education teacher from Quebec has been sentenced to 20 months in jail for carrying on a two-year sexual relationship with a high school student. Despite her pleas in Gatineau court Friday to serve her sentence in the community, Tania Pontbriand received an 18-month sentence for two counts of sexual exploitation and a 20-month sentence for one count of sexual assault. She will serve the sentences concurrently. She was also sentenced to two years’ probation following her jail term.

    Pontbriand was convicted of the three offences in January for having a sexual relationship with her student at a high school in Rosemere, Que., north of Montreal.    ​
