Onaway resident Erin Chaskey faces a felony charge of eavesdropping after allegedly using her phone to record Onaway Area Community School District officials discussing their response to her conservative activism, the Detroit Free Press reported on Tuesday. Chaskey was arraigned in Rogers City’s 89th district court on Tuesday and a preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 7, the Free Press reported. The suit alleges that Chaskey stood outside then-superintendent Rod Fullerton’s door in October and began recording a conversation he was having with a school board member. Later that month, Chaskey was banned from school property. The charge comes amid ...

A northern Michigan mom who has been battling her school board over class curriculum was bound over for trial on a felony eavesdropping charge Tuesday, following a preliminary hearing. Chief District Judge Maria Barton of 89th District Court in Rogers City said there is probable cause to send Erin Chaskey to trial on allegations she unlawfully recorded a private conversation between the school superintendent and a school board member. Judge dismisses eavesdropping charge against Up North mom who challenged school officials

A judge has dismissed a rarely used felony eavesdropping charge brought against a northern Michigan mom who was battling her school board over curriculum issues. "They did not close the door," Gauthier said Monday, in dismissing the charge. Chaskey was standing in a reception area about 10 feet away from the ...
