Police said that [Laura Elizabeth] Whitehurst's sexual relationship with the Citrus Valley High School student began when he was 16 years old and lasted nearly a year. Whitehurst gave birth to a child just days before her arrest, according to NBC Los Angeles. "One thing led to another, and he ended up at her residence, and it's been going on, going for approximately one year now," said Redlands Police Cmdr. Shawn Ryan told reporters. "She was open with her pregnancy. I don't know what her story was to everybody else, but it was an open pregnancy. The school district knew about it," Ryan added.​

NBC Los Angeles: Police Have Identified Two Additional Alleged Victims of Redlands Teachers (July 3 2013)

Following the public announcement of Whitehurst's arrest, police said they had learned of two other victims who both had alleged sexual relationships with Whitehurst beginning in fall of 2007 and into 2008, when the suspect was an English teacher at Redlands High School.​

• One victim was a 14-year-old freshman during the time of the alleged relationship. "The victim, now 20, told police that he and Whitehurst had sex in her classroom before school, as well as at her apartment and in her car," a police news release stated.
• Another man came forward and said he had a relationship with Whitehurst in 2007-08, when he was a junior in Whitehurst's class. The brief description from police of the relationship appears to match that offered by a man who spoke to NBC4 Southern California Wednesday, saying he had sex with Whitehurst while he was a pupil.

The relationship lasted a year before the student’s mother reported it to the school district, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. “The district was recently made aware of allegations involving a high school student and teacher. We immediately notified the police and placed the employee on leave,” said Assistant Superintendent Sabine Robertson-Phillips.​

He told the Redlands Daily Facts that the class had been instructed to write about their dreams and afterwards, Whitehurst told him that she had dreamed of kissing him. He said that it led to a sexual relationship and he visited her home.​

“I don’t think I was taken advantage of,” he told the Daily Facts. “Morally I feel like I shouldn’t have done that, but at the time I was like, ‘Woohoo, this is awesome’.” He has filed a police report but told authorities he does not wish to press charges.​

Mr Cooper said he did not feel like a victim during the times he slept with her as a 16-year-old. The now 22-year-old said Whitehurst told him she had dreamed about kissing him during a school excursion. “I didn't have anything to say really,” he said. “I was like, "Oh really, that's crazy," and a couple of days later, we ended up actually kissing.” Mr Cooper said after a few weeks Whitehurst invited him to her apartment and he stayed the night. He said he continued to have sex with the teacher a few times a month. “When it happens, you're kind of like, all right, this is pretty badass,” he said ... "It's more of like, 'Holy cow, this hot teacher is into me.'"​
