Judy Evon Bingham, a teacher at Tritt Elementary school in east Cobb, allegedly grabbed the boy by the ankle, causing him to hit his head on the floor, according to an arrest warrant and incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.”The accused also dragged the victim by the ankle out of the classroom, down a hallway and to the front office while other students were watching,” the warrant states.

Bingham, 48, of Marietta, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at her home and charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, a felony, and simple battery, Cobb County jail records showed. She was released late Wednesday after posting $5,000 bond.​

Cobb County teacher accused of dragging kindergartner by ankles

According to a police incident report, Judy Bingham is accused of dragging the kindergartner by his ankles at Tritt Elementary School back on Aug. 15. According to the report, a paraprofessional in the classroom said the student was acting out in class when Bingham grabbed the child by the ankles to take him to bookshelves at the back of the class, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the floor. The paraprofessional said that after the child continued to act out, and refused to go to the office, Bingham then dragged the child again to the door and out of the classroom, according to the report.


When questioned about the incident, the report state's that Bingham said the child walked to the bookshelves on his own, and that she did not drag him across the classroom. She also said that she "scooped him up," to get him to the office, adding that she had to grab him by the leg to get him to move.​

A parapro in the classroom was interviewed by a police officer this week and told them that while other students were seated in a circle on the classroom floor, one student would not sit and follow directions. A kindergarten student was apparently grabbed by his ankle and dragged on the floor at a school in Marietta, Georgia. The incident is believed to have happened on August 15 at Tritt Elementary School, a place the Wendell family wanted the child to attend because of its good reputation.


The alleged dragging incident wasn’t being investigated until the child’s parent heard about it from a fourth-grade student. The parent then emailed the school’s principal, Tricia Patterson. She urgently alerted district leaders to the incident, Cobb schools spokesman, Jay Dillon, said on Thursday.​

The East Cobb, Georgia Tritt Elementary School educator allegedly chastised a five-year-old boy in her class for not sitting still and following instructions during circle time according to an unnamed paraprofessional, whom police officers reportedly interviewed states AJC.

A teacher was arrested on charges of cruelty to children after allegedly dragging a little boy by the ankle because he refused to sit in a circle, police in Atlanta said. Cobb County Police said that they arrested the kindergarten teacher for dragging the student through a classroom and into the main office of the school.

48-year-old Judy Evon Bingham of the Tritt Elementary school, allegedly grabbed the boy by his ankle, causing him to hit his head on the ground. Bingham assaulted the child in front of other children. She was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, and was charged with cruelty to children and battery.​
