    The director of the Holmes High School Band has resigned his position, The River City News confirmed Wednesday ... The district would not comment on why [Jared] Murray submitted his resignation but The River City News has learned that he had been out of the classroom for roughly two weeks.

    Fox 19 2013: Former band director investigated for inappropriate text messages (Sept 26 2013)

    FOX19 has uncovered documents that show Covington Independent Public Schools investigated a report of possible inappropriate electronic communication by former band director Jared Murray with a student. A police document obtained by FOX19 references an allegation of 104 inappropriate text messages from Murray. Covington Police have confirmed an "open and ongoing" investigation into allegations against Murray but will not comment further on the nature of that investigation. Murray tells FOX19 that he is 100 percent innocent in the case. He says his text messages to this particular female student are being taken out of context.

    Lawyers for a former Covington high school band director who resigned Tuesday say he is being defamed. Former Holmes High School Band Director Jared Murray is under investigation by police for a case involving a student, but detectives would not release the details of the investigation.

    Deters’ office is calling the case against Murray a “scandal” and say it involves his accuser, the mother of his accuser and a member of the Covington School District. “The student (Murray) believes is involved in this has a long history of bad behavior,” Murray’s lawyers said. Murray’s lawyers added that he will sue the Covington School District.

    River City News: Former Holmes Band Director Responds to Allegations Against Him (Sept 30 2013)

    Former Holmes High School Band Director Jared Murray was a guest on 700 WLW's "The Bill Cunningham Show" on Monday and spoke to members of the media afterwards, including The River City News. Murray resigned his position last week amid an open and ongoing investigation by the Covington Police Department and following more than two weeks on paid suspension.

    The investigation centers around the more than one hundred text messages sent from Murray to a female student at Holmes, at least some of which were deemed to be inappropriate by the female's mother. "I have sent some text messages but I've never received any report saying what I did send or didn't send," Murray said Monday. He added that most of his text messages to various students were directly related to band while other messages may have been more personal in nature but offered out of concern.

Former Holmes High School Band Director Jared Murray was suspended with pay Friday, Sept. 6 after someone reported to the Covington Independent School District central office that he was engaged in inappropriate texting, high profile attorney Eric Deters said.

    Former Holmes High School band director, Jared Murray, likely won't face criminal charges. Murray has been under investigation by the Covington Police Department for allegedly sending more than 100 inappropriate text messages to a female student. Accord to Brandon Voellker, the attorney for the student, Murray said "repeatedly that I love you. I want you to be mine. Just not appropriate conduct."

    A couple of the messages according to Fox 19:

    • Yes, slap on the a**, LOL… YOU BETTER NOT….. YOU ALREADY KNOW ILL SMACK YOU'RE A**IF YOU DO.
    • YOU KNOW I TRULY CONSIDER YOU MINE..." and "THESE ARE THE DAYS I REALLY WANT TO TAKE YOU HOME AND GIVE YOU THE LOVE YOU DESERVE.

    [Jared] Murray said that school leaders gave him a choice of being fired or resigning after learning that he sent more than 100 texts to a particular student.
    That student said at least some of the texts were inappropriate, something Murray denies.

    Murray, with his attorney Chris Roach, plans to file a lawsuit against the school district and the student's mother, whom he claims is the motivation behind the investigation. Murray does not face any criminal charges.
