    McHenry County board to vote on effort to stop imprisoning immigration detainees in county jail

    A young woman’s experience while being held on immigration charges at the McHenry County jail is helping spur efforts to end the practice of keeping federal detainees at the jail. Meydi Guzman Rivas is a 19-year-old undocumented immigrant from Honduras who was a student at Crystal Lake Central High School who said she had a “horrible” experience at the facility. Citing such cases, some county board members are pushing to end the contract that houses federal detainees at the jail, saying it perpetuates an inhumane system.
