William Drury, 48, turned round and told the girl aged 16 and the boy, aged 17, they “looked beautiful”, Leeds Crown Court was told ... The jury heard the boy told Drury, a drama and English teacher, to drive away from the house so his wife didn’t see the couple having sex. It is also alleged that Drury encouraged the girl to perform a sex act on the boy. And the prosecution say Drury molested the girl on a number of occasions, touching her breasts and kissing her neck and ears. The court heard Drury encouraged the pair to get together before quizzing them about their sex life together.

But giving evidence today, Drury said he did not want it to happen and he did not say anything ... Drury is also accused of touching the girl in a sexual way but said he had only ever tickled the back of her knee when other people were present and kissed her as part of a rehearsal for a school production when he was standing in for an absent pupil ... The court also heard that the teacher sent a Valentine's card by Facebook to another pupil and told her he wanted to be her boyfriend and was jealous of her boyfriend. Drury was arrested in September 2008 after pictures of teenage girls were seen on his computer. When asked about the images, he told the court he assumed some were from Facebook or My Space and others, showing a girl in a vest top without a bra, had been taken as part of a school production. The court also heard Drury had begun writing an erotic short story about a possible relationship between a teacher and a student, which was also found on his computer.

Yesterday, Drury, 48, was found guilty of a series of sex offences at Leeds Crown Court.

Judge James Spencer postponed sentencing the teacher and rejected a plea for him to be freed on bail. The judge told the court: “It seems to me a prison sentence is inevitable notwithstanding his hitherto good character.” ... Police who examined the teacher’s computer found a number of other photographs of female students, including one of a girl sunbathing in a bikini, which he had cropped to begin at her vaginal area, and some of a 15-year-old girl in her underwear. Prosecutors said Drury had been “grooming” the teenage couple who had sex in his car. The teacher later received a formal oral warning for his “over-familiar involvement with students” by giving pupils lifts and was warned that he was “jeopardising his professional standing and the reputation of the school”. The jury was told that “vulnerable” teenage girls would go to Drury to tell him their problems. He described one as his “mistress” and asked another for a “birthday f***” on her 16th birthday.
