Teens are apparently stealing soap dispensers and urinals from school for the devious lick trend

Students are stealing paper towel dispensers, lab equipment, and school bus parts to flex as "devious licks" in the latest back-to-school trend on TikTok. Well, at least they claim they are. In a video posted last week, TikTok user @oskarsoskar, unzips their backpack and pulls out two COVID antigen testing kits. They toss the kits into a larger pile of boxed kits on their bed, and then pans over to a duffle bag filled with even more kits. As the music builds, @oskarsoskar pulls out a drawer from under their bed, revealing even more antigen testing kits. "Mfs doing great ...

TikTok trend shuts down school bathrooms across central Indiana

A viral trend on social media is sweeping through schools across the country for all the wrong reasons. It’s called the “devious lick” challenge. Middle school and high school students are stealing, not licking, bathroom supplies like soap and soap dispensers, often causing damage in the process and posting the act online for a laugh. But central Indiana schools don’t think it’s funny. Neither does one school resource officer determined to put an end to the trend. “We have to stop this and stop this now,” said Richard Craig, lead school resource officer for the Avon School Police Department. “Trends ...

TikTok Bans 'Devious Licks' Trend Which Saw High School Students Arrested

TikTok has taken action to remove any videos promoting the rising "devious licks" trend on the platform, as the hashtag becomes unsearchable on the app too. The "devious licks" trend began in September and spiraled across the U.S. as high school students damaged and stole school property and shared the footage online. TikTok user @jugg4elias is cited as the originator of the trend, after uploading a video of himself taking a box of disposable masks from his backpack on September 1. "A month into school. Absolutely devious lick," he captioned the clip. Within days, users had copied the video idea ...

'Devious Licks' TikTok Trend Encourages Kids To Steal, Vandalize

When Liz McDonald was robbed last week, the thieves took more than what she paid for out of pocket for her classroom. They changed how she viewed her students. "I was robbed today and I need to say that what was taken from me was not the physical items I purchased with my own money for my classroom, it was my joy," McDonald, a Spanish teacher at Medford High School, said. "Instead of channeling my creative energy into designing activities that will engage my students, I felt mistrust." McDonald posted about the theft on a local Facebook group to warn ...

TikTok 'Devious Licks Challenge' Pushes Schools To Brink

The last 18 months have been nothing short of grueling for U.S. educators. Now, as teachers trudge through yet another year of challenges caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, an unusual TikTok trend is threatening to push them to the edge. The "Devious Licks Challenge" is the latest viral trend to emerge from the social media platform where millions flock to watch videos posted by their friends, celebrities and other influencers. Unlike other challenges, however, this one isn't likely to result in bodily harm — not like a recent one encouraging people to walk on stacks of milk crates. This ...

New 'Devious Lick' TikTok trend spurs vandalism, theft at many Treasure Coast schools

The latest social media trend isn't calling on users to climb a stack of empty crates, ingest large amounts of cinnamon or plank in odd locations. Instead, it's encouraging teens and young adults to steal or destroy school property and then post it to TikTok with the hashtag "devious lick." The trend already has made its way across the Treasure Coast, school district officials say. "We've had (an incident) at each middle and high school in the district," said Frank Frangella, Martin County schools director of safety and security. Students mostly have been removing soap dispensers and clogging toilets, he ...

TikTok #deviouslicks challenge leads to arrest of 9 Marion students for vandalism

Nine Marion County teenage students have been arrested on misdemeanor vandalism charges after school district officials linked them to a destructive TikTok challenge called #DeviousLicks. Young users on TikTok challenge teenagers to film themselves destroying school property, such as ripping soap dispensers and urinals off the wall, and posting their rampages on the popular social media video app. Dennis McFatten, director of Safe Schools for Marion County Public Schools, addressed the school board on Thursday and was asked about the damage that teenagers have caused throughout the district. So far, nine Marion students have been arrested on vandalism charges. McFatten ...

The TikTok "devious licks" challenge that has been sweeping across the nation, resulting in students arrested for stealing or vandalizing school property, has hit at least four Alachua County schools in recent weeks. A new TikTok controversy targeting teachers could end up with students being arrested in north Georgia. Channel 2′s Tom Regan was in Hall County, where for weeks, students have been imitating what they see online. Last month, it was trashing bathrooms in response to the so-called School Challenge. Students stole toilets, spray-painted walls and wrecked plumbing. In October, the challenge appears to be slapping teachers on the rear end. “Slapping a teacher on the fanny, let me say, I do not find that funny,” Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield said in a video message to students. “I find that ...

October is 'Smack a Teacher' Month, According to Upcoming TikTok Challenge

October is "Smack a staff member on the backside" month, according to an ongoing TikTok challenge. Schools across the country are warning teachers and parents that the so-called "Devious Licks" challenge is about to enter a new — and even more sinister — stage. September's challenge, which dared students to vandalize school bathrooms, made headlines after it went well beyond throwing wet toilet tissue on the ceiling. Mirrors were smashed, soap and paper towel dispensers were torn off walls, ceiling tiles and stall doors were pulled down, and entire sinks were even stolen. Many schools were forced to close down ...

School districts send out warning about

A new TikTok challenge that starts tomorrow challenges students to "smack a teacher." "This is very disappointing," said Wendy Doromal, President of the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association. She’s just learning of this new challenge. "First off, anyone then would carry through on that would be committing an offense that could have them arrested, not just suspended or expelled from school, but certainly arrested," Doromal said, "and I would expect that the staff member would press charges." FOX 35 gathered pictures from schools across Central Florida from TikTok’s September "Devious Licks" challenge. It dared students to break, vandalize and steal ...
