Former teacher who raped student jailed on probation violation

The former Potsdam Central School social studies teacher who raped one of his students was sent to jail Thursday for violating probation. Thomas P. McGowan, 33, of 39 Reynolds Road, Potsdam, pleaded guilty to the violent felony of second-degree rape on March 24. McGowan told the court that he had sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 15. County Court Judge Derek P. Champagne issued a warrant for McGowan’s arrest following a reported violation of probation.
